Recapture Your Dreams!
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Mindset for Success, Going for GoalsHave you ever wondered why your once exciting dreams have somehow lost their luster? Perhaps you haven’t positively attended to your plans, or maybe it goes a little deeper and getting off track has evolved over time.
.
To embrace and achieve the mindset that leads to the success you truly desire, a shift in thinking may be necessary. Often, after years of trying to get ahead and following the directives of other people, we lose site of our own aspirations. Getting back to your dreams and nurturing their growth can sometimes be a challenge. But it is a challenge worth taking on.
.
As children we start out with innocence, a sense of invincibility, and the natural ability to imagine exciting possibilities. Then, as we grow and enter society we are increasingly surrounded by people bombarding us with limiting beliefs and diminished images.
.
Little by little our belief that anything is possible is often whittled away and we seem to accept a diluted version of what we had hoped to achieve. Some people are fortunate enough to slip through the deluge of the ‘can’t - don’t - no way’ mentality.
.
However, most of us, as we grow into adulthood, find a time in our lives when we must choose between being inundated by self-defeating patterns or to take control and consciously decide to reverse the damage. Optimally, the choice is to participate in successful ways to nourish the mind and reach for imaginative and ambitious goals. This is called Success-Minded Thinking and it takes practice to get the mindset where you want it.
.
Consider this exercise: Begin by making a list of all the things you believed in before you were told they were impossible. Do this without any editing. For now, just get your imaginative thoughts noted. Keep adding to your list, and new ideas are okay too. Bring your dreams and creative ideas back to the surface You may want to take several weeks to let your thinking percolate.
.
When you feel that you have captured a healthy list of possibilities, then begin to view them with an open mind. Warning: with all the old tapes of what you should and shouldn’t do playing in the back of your mind, you may need to really work on that ‘open mind’ concept. Keep in mind that this is your life and your future that you are addressing. So, allow yourself to consider how your recaptured dreams and new ideas can possibly be engaged in your life.
.
After identifying what you want to act on, begin to establish clear goals and action plans for achieving your desired results. You must make a conscious choice to participate in successful ways to nourish your mind and act on imaginative and ambitious goals. Engage in Success-Minded Thinking to pursue the dreams you want to fulfill in your life.

A Goal Begins With Your Reasons To Believe
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Success and Failure, Mindset for Success, Going for GoalsTo achieve any goal you must understand why you believe in it.
If you really want to accomplish a goal, to have something that you want to become a reality, then clearly establish your reasons to believe why it is truly important to you. Do not move forward with your pursuit until you have established this critical step.
Do this exercise: Make a list of all your Reasons to Believe (RTBs) – that is, the meaningful reasons why your desire should and will happen. Initially, simply jot down all your ideas without regard to tiny details or sentence structure, just get the thrust of your thinking down on paper. Sometimes this exercise can be done very quickly and other times it may be best to allow your thoughts to evolve over time. This process depends on the subject matter and whether this is a new brainstorm or a dream that has been percolating for some time. Always make sure that your reasons are your own.
When you feel that you have established your RTBs for pursuing your desired goal, you will have truly begun the foundation for your commitment to achieve your dream. You will realize, “Aha!, so this is why the goal is so important to me.”
The next step is to crystallize how you are going to accomplish your pursuit. When setting out to create a plan of action, that’s when you can begin refining the step-by-step approach toward achieving your goal. Keep your RTBs clearly in mind, do not get bogged down. Your baseline reasons and enthusiasm are paramount to your success.

Different Results Require New Thinking
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Positive Self-Talk, Success and Failure, Mindset for SuccessTo achieve new or different results than what you are presently experiencing, then it is time for change.
A new or more successful outcome begins with establishing a change in your thinking. If your present approach is not producing the results you want, you have probably established a habit that needs ”new thinking.” Often we succumb to thinking patterns which do not really serve us well. You can change that pattern, your behavior, and the end result.
It is easy to become stuck with the same thoughts and beliefs, speaking the same words, and doing the same things over and over. It’s like an endless loop — and such a pattern can stifle creativity, cause a lack of focus and ineffective action.
You can learn to identify your own habits of thought and recognize where or if change is needed. But, you must be diligent when making changes, as familiar patterns are deeply entrenched and new thinking patterns take time and tenacity to establish. You cannot expect new or different results if you keep the same old habits of thinking.
Perhaps you are in the habit of over analyzing, maybe to the point of procrastination. Or maybe you have fallen into the habit of thinking in negative terms, rather than positive alternatives. Because you become what you think about most of the time, it is important to consciously change less productive thinking to a pattern that clearly contributes to attaining your most desired outcome.
If you do not have a clear perspective on your present pattern of thinking, try jotting down your thoughts on a note pad or in a journal for at least several weeks (handwritten notes connect with the brain). When you take an action that does not produce the outcome you want, write down your thoughts. Try to figure out what your sequence of thinking has been, how you could have acted differently, and what you will do next time to achieve better results.
Once you identify how you will more effectively act on achieving different results, continue to get that thinking on paper. Be clear, concise and establish sequential steps for your plan of action. Create a realistic timetable and commit to taking action.
If you want a different result, then a change in thinking and taking positive action is necessary. Remember, old habits can sometimes need a swift kick and require bold action, but new results are definitely achievable.

Get Motivated and Stay Motivated
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Positive Self-Talk, Mindset for Success, Going for Goals, Personal ChoicesDo You Struggle with Self-Motivation? How to get motivated and stay motivated is a challenge everyone struggles with at one time or another.
The difference between consistently self-motivated people and those who frequently feel stuck is to understand that productive action and results depend on preparation — 99% of which is the mindset. In other words, to experience motivational desire, one must first know why they want to take action (what is the motivating desired result), prepare to implement a plan that inspires action, and then to take action.
Self-Motivation naturally exists when there is a contrast between what is presently happening in one’s life and what one definitely wants to happen, and to be clearly determined to experience the desired end result. Otherwise, without proper preparation to doggedly move forward, stalling out is bound to occur.
The problem is that most people don’t prepare a crystal clear vision of what they want to accomplish or how they are going to achieve it. To truly go after a meaningful goal and be motivated, one must set a plan into place that includes practical sequential action steps partnered with a mindset that vigorously supports a positive outcome.
To help reduce or eliminate a nagging struggle to establish motivation and to keep motivated, it is important to understand the powerful impact of establishing the right mindset. How one communicates within their thoughts is key to developing an inner support system for positive forward movement, especially during challenging moments.
At the heart of achieving the necessary mindset is to understand that the subconscious mind is infinitely more powerful than the conscious mind. Repetitive information fed to the subconscious mind that is supportive of one’s goal is of enormous benefit. The result is either positive-in-positive-out or negative-in-negative-out. It is wise to make a conscious choice to prepare the subconscious mind for successful action.
If one constantly degrades their actions or self-worth, that is exactly what the subconscious mind will believe — and it will strongly reinforce that belief. Knowing the impact this part of the mind plays, the better choice is to carefully deliver constructive, positive thoughts.
Feed the subconscious mind exactly the thoughts and vision you want to experience — preferably, as if it is presently happening. For example, “I am a successful entrepreneur” is better than “I want to be … “
Motivation and sustained self-motivation is based on the understanding of just how influential the proper mindset is to successful outcomes.

Your Thoughts Shape Your Life
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Positive Self-Talk, Success and Failure, Mindset for SuccessWhat you think about and believe is what you attract to your life.
Clearly, thinking positively and actions of integrity beget the opportunity for more positive results. Likewise, negative, limiting or defeating thoughts beget the likelihood of negative results. Have you heard others declare that you should be careful what you wish for (say or think), as you may very well get it? There is truth in those words, and it can work for or against you.
The way that you interpret or explain things to yourself is critical in determining who you are as a person and the outcomes you experience. This process is under your control. It is your choice whether your thoughts are constructive and effective or detrimental.
Since choice of thought and beliefs largely shape the life you live, it is wise to not leave this to happenstance.
You can have thoughts of self-defeating beliefs, magnified fears, and other limiting habits that will only hold you back. Or, you can be authentically positive and passionate to accomplish what is beneficial and important to you, and attract that to you — this holds true for all facets of life.

Belief, Persistence & Humor - the Einstein Way
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Success and Failure, Mindset for SuccessOne high school teacher commented to Albert Einstein, “Nothing will ever become of you.”
As a student, throughout Einstein’s education, he cut classes, displayed a lack of obedience, and was constantly joking. He managed a 4.91 average out of 6 in his final university grades (considered almost average). As a young man he seriously struggled with job success and finances; and early on, Einstein published a few not especially impressive physics articles.
Yet, Albert Einstein became the most famous scientist of the 20th centruy, thanks to his groundbreaking theory of relativity — which laid the foundation for much of modern physics theory. His work had profound impact on everything form quantum theory to nuclear power and the atom bomb. And, he won the Nobel Prize for his work on the photoelectric effect.
It turned out that this man who was viewed as less than impressive and struggled with serious difficulties in jobs, finances, and family matters, knew the meaning of believing in himself, persistence, and how to call upon humor throughout his life to help maintain perspective.
These prolific words came from Albert Einstein:
“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”
“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”

Responsibility - Accept 100% for Decisions, Actions and Results
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Success and Failure, Personal Choices“To decide, to be at the level of choice, is to take responsibility for your life and to be in control of your life.” - Abbie M. Dale
Learn to accept 100% responsibility for your decisions, actions, and results.
To experience a purposeful, balanced, and fulfilled life, it is imperative to accept full responsibility for the choices you make. This includes what you think, the beliefs you hold, the decisions you make, the actions you take, and the results you derive from those activities.
There is only one person responsible for the quality of life that you live — that person is YOU!
When things turn sour and you blame others for your downfall, that’s a dead end road. However, if you have accepted responsibility for your actions and their results, and events do not succeed as you had planned, you then have the opportunity to learn from your trials and errors. Thus, you are ahead of the game when you try again. And, you will be determined to try again — your resolve will be even stronger.
By accepting full responsibility for your decisions, actions, and results, your approach going into any endeavor is optimized for the potential of a more positive outcome. And, when the outcome is successful, you have the privilege to reap all the well-deserved benefits.

Procrastination Getting In The Way? by David Schaefer on July 6th, 2008
Procrastination Getting In The Way?
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Success and Failure, Mindset for Success, Going for GoalsIf Procrastination Is Getting In The Way, Take Action To Resolve It !
Experiencing periodic procrastination is to be expected in life and those temporary lapses usually are soon recognized and addressed. However, when life seems like it is almost coming to a halt and goals are not nearly being accomplished, then it is time to take serious stock of the situation and figure out how to get the wheels moving again.
If you answer YES to 2 or more of these questions, you may be a procrastinator:
Do you often put necessary work aside to do more enjoyable things?
Do you duck new experiences because change is difficult?
Do you frequently evade decisions?
Do you feel overwhelmed, not knowing where to begin?
Do you carefully map out projects but rarely see them through?
Do you feel ill when you’re confronted with an undesirable task?
Do you fault others when things don’t go as you planned?
Do you remain in a job when you’re unhappy for fear of making a move?
Do you avoid confrontation at any cost?
While procrastination may seem like a simple behavior, it can be complex. It can involve emotions, skills, attitudes, health, and factors that often operate below the radar.
When your intention is to achieve a goal, procrastination will only hinder or possibly sabotage your efforts. If you have difficulty getting past bouts of procrastination, don’t hesitate to ask for help.

So Why Has Financial Success Eluded You? by David Schaefer on August 13th, 2007
Positive Expectancy, Part 2 - A Lesson from Thomas Jefferson
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Positive Self-Talk, Success and Failure, Mindset for Success, Going for Goals, Personal ChoicesTo achieve the success you envision, you must believe that you are capable of making it happen. For some people, this deep-seated belief comes quite naturally. However, for many of us we frequently question our ability to ultimately succeed at accomplishing our dreams – lacking a sense of positive expectancy.
There are a variety possible reasons as to why we question that we can’t or won’t follow through with a desired objective. Perhaps we have allowed ourselves to absorb repeated negative comments over the years, or maybe we didn’t receive a sufficient dose of positive reinforcement in our youth. Of course, there are numerous other potential reasons or excuses.
If you are one who needs to regroup and begin the process of taking back control of your outlook toward positive outcomes, the good news is that it is entirely possible. The bad news is that successful achievements simply won’t happen unless you believe they are possible and make the commitment to passionately pursue your goals.
It may take awhile to condition yourself to develop a pattern of authentic positive expectancy, but it is most likely easier than you imagine. Once you accept that the brain responds to what it is conditioned to expect, then the process begins to make sense. For example, if one is conditioned to expect failure, one can also be conditioned to expect successful results.
Thomas Jefferson was right on target when he stated that, “Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal.” Over time, Mr. Jefferson conditioned his mind to expect positive outcomes. He developed an attitude of thought that attracted positive results, people, and circumstances that supported the fulfillment of his goals. He nurtured self-belief and self-confidence. Developing “the right mental attitude” for successful outcomes is possible for each of us.
If the concept of truly believing that you are capable of achieving a major goal is a bit overwhelming, then begin with a smaller, more manageable objective and progress to a larger goal. Remember, each of us had to crawl before we could walk. Allow yourself the opportunity to develop a pattern of positive expectancy. With time, your mind will be conditioned to support you as if you have the wind at your back.

Do Not Fumble with Fear!
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Success and Failure, Mindset for Success“Fear is an insidious virus. Given a breeding place in our minds it will eat away our spirit and block the forward path of our endeavors.” - James F. Bell
An awareness of fear can actually be of benefit, as it cautions us of potential harm. But, to be consumed by fear and to allow it to negatively impact your hopes, dreams and goals is very detrimental.
It is imperative that you learn to direct your thoughts and choices where they will do the most good toward your desired outcome. That means not allowing fear to creep in, take over and create a deluge of doubt and ongoing uncertainty.
If allowed to fester, unnecessary fear and worry can suck the life out of you. It can dramatically, and often silently, invade all areas of your life — robbing you of physical, emotional and social productivity.
How do you counter the type of fear, worry and insecurity that is not really an immediate threat? You must learn to channel your thinking toward what is most important to you. In other words, take control of your thoughts and actions.
Remind yourself of the reason for your goal and why it will be of value when it is accomplished. Re-examine the steps you want to take in order to achieve your goal. And then take immediate action and begin moving forward. If you truly immerse yourself in going for your goal, the fear that was plaguing you will begin to evaporate.
Bottom line: do whatever it takes to see past your fear and take positive action toward the goal that is most important to you. Take control and change your focus from the fear to what you want and can do. If you feel that you need help to move forward, get it.
We all experience thoughts that can undermine and derail our mood, intentions, and actions. It is how we decide to respond to those thoughts that make the difference.

Positive Expectancy, Part 1 – A Crucial Ingredient to Success
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Positive Self-Talk, Success and Failure, Mindset for Success, Going for Goals, Personal ChoicesAn absolutely crucial ingredient toward the accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavor is the mindset that you can and will achieve the results you want. This is called Positive Expectancy.
.
This week, next month, and the year ahead will unfold as you expect it will. In other words, if your outlook and belief system is positive and you genuinely expect like results, you are certainly going to realize greater personal fulfillment.
.
This does not mean that your pursuit will always be a bed of roses just because you positively expect that outcome. But, positive expectancy begets positive results more of the time and provides the foundation for overcoming challenges along the way.
.
Adversely, if you approach your life with the attitude that nothing will improve or that you are destined for a “Murphy’s Law” existence (what can go wrong will go wrong), that’s pretty much what you can expect.
.
It boils down to a powerful choice: positive expectancy or negative expectancy.
.
The person who practices the attitude of positive expectancy becomes proficient at turning problems into solutions, embraces responsibility as opportunity, and attacks adversity as an opportunity for learning and strengthening abilities and resolve. The depth of your success greatly depends upon your commitment to your positive expectations.
.
Here are 5 components that contribute to Positive Expectancy:
.
1. Clearly decide on what it is that you desire — be precise, write down details.
.
2. Use your imagination and consistently visualize the results you want.
.
3. Truly believe in your pursuit, no matter how many obstacles appear.
.
4. Enthusiastically take action and doggedly overcome challenges.
.
5. Be positive, expect the results you want.

Setting Goals is Imperative
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Going for GoalsGoals Provide Momentum Against Odds
“Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal.” - Thomas Jefferson
Goals charge us with desire and work to push us outside our comfort zones, causing us to challenge ourselves and expand. They give us the momentum to advance even when things are distressing or seemingly insurmountable. The individual with strong goals and a clear image of desire causes these elements, through repetition, to become deeply embedded in the subconscious mind and is therefore enabled. This is due to the mind’s generative and sustaining power to attain goals in the least amount of time and with the least amount of physical exertion.
Strong, clear goals accelerate our subconscious activity, harnessing its powers of achievement, causing us to unconsciously zero in on our target 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Little by little you achieve actualization, as all your abilities and mental powers become engaged to that end.
It is shocking, but in North America today:
- Only 5% of the population has formed goals for their future.
- Only 1% have actually taken the effort to write their goals down.
- Nearly 95% of the people in our society do not have clear, concise, written goals.
- The average person spends more time planning their vacation than planning their lives.
Without goals and plans to reach them, you are like a ship without a rudder, sometimes drifting aimlessly and sometimes going full steam ahead in random directions. Those without purpose accomplish very little over a lifetime. They tend to be very busy, always moving, going, spending, doing. They confuse busyness with accomplishment — busy people, with no goals or direction, only accomplish busyness.
Goals can only be achieved once they’re conceived. If you haven’t created your goals, then you’re taking action in random areas of existence and completing random tasks, not accomplishing and advancing your potential.

How Do You Make Life Choices?
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Going for Goals, Personal ChoicesCHOICES: Go Deeper Than The Tip of the Iceberg
The greatest part of who we are and what our potential offers us is not always evident. You must go deeper, below the surface, to discover your true feelings, desires, and capabilities. To truly understand and appreciate your dreams and challenges you must see beneath what only shows on the surface. Like an iceberg, the greatest part of who you are and what you have to offer does not readily reveal itself unless you choose to look deeper within.
So often choices are made with a fraction of the information available to us. Such choices become the basis of future decisions, and we may later find that we failed to adequately consider the depth of our true abilities and options. This can lead to a very unfortunate predicament that may not easily fixed.
When faced with challenges or when deciding to pursue a goal, it is a wise decision to thoroughly consider as many factors as possible before taking action — especially when future actions and results will be based on the decisions you make. As in this iceber
