Part 1, Simplified Personality-Communication Indicator – THE LEADER
Published by David Schaefer on Tagged Communicating, Mindset for Success, Positive Self-Talk, Success and FailureEffective communication between individuals and among groups of people is a critical factor in experiencing personal and career success. In fact, let us go ahead and place it right up there with breathing or the need for food to sustain life. Effective communication is that important.
.
Unless you understand that each person operates with unique communication styles that stem from their personality makeup, you can be at a real disadvantage when attempting to accomplish communications that produce positive results.
.
If you have ever experienced an escalated argument that may have begun with a simple disagreement, you then know what can occur when you do not understand the personality type of the other person. In other words, if you can identify the personality characteristics of the person with whom you are communicating, you are then better equipped to adjust your communication style to achieve a more positive outcome from the exchange.
.
The natural question is, “how do I understand another person’s personality type and communication style … and how will that help me?”
.
This is where we will bypass an in-depth psychological review of personality types and go straight for a simplified approach of four different types of personalities and their communication styles. We will refer to this as the Simplified Personality-Communication Indicator or the SPCI.
.
How will this help you? Once you understand the communication styles of each personality, you will then be better able to adjust your communication for a more productive result. This can impact to some degree every form of communications known to man.
.
The 4 types of personalities of the SPCI are: The Leader, The Innovator, The Friend, and The Evaluator. With each personality type we will look at five indicators. They are: Strengths, Strengths Out of Balance, Communication Approach, Relational Needs, and Relational Balance.
.
This report addresses THE LEADER.
.
The Leader – Strengths
Takes charge, a problem solver, competitive, enjoys change, and can be confrontational.
.
The Leader – Strengths Out of Balance
Can be: too direct or impatient, too busy, cold blooded, impulsive or take big risks, and insensitive to others.
.
The Leader – Communication Approach
Direct or blunt, one-way, and may not be a good listener.
.
The Leader – Relational Needs
Needs personal attention and recognition for what they do, wants areas where he/she can be in charge, likes opportunity to solve problems, requires freedom to change and wants challenging activities
.
The Leader – Relational Balance
Needs to add softness and needs to become a great listener.
